Commercial school group's 10th anniversary
visit to IH Torquay
Oh it's such a perfect bay (report in
Herald Express newspaper)
A group of Swiss teachers and students have billed Torquay
as the "perfect place" to spend two weeks.
Thirty-six business students from the Uster Commercial School
have been in the Bay on a study programme. The school, located
in a small town near Zurich, has been bringing groups
of students to the Bay for 10 years. To mark the anniversary
of their visits they celebrated with a reception at the mayor's
parlour.
Benno Scherrer, head of the English department
at Uster Commercial School, praised the work of International
House English language school and
the resort's facilities. This year the group took part in
a programme of English language tuition and attended a number
of talks and cultural visits. They also visited local businesses.
Mr. Scherrer said: "We have come
to Torquay for years now because we feel very welcome at International
House and appreciate the high professional standards
of the school and the fact that IH chooses
its families carefully. Torquay is the perfect place to come
for two weeks; the town is neither too big nor too small and
it is a typical English town so students can really learn
about England and its life."
He added that the students love the nightlife
in Torquay and that they see the town as a safe haven. "As
a group leader I wouldn't want to take youngsters to London-
we feel much safer here," added Mr Scherrer. "We
are very happy here and are looking forward to coming
for many years to come. "Students like Torquay because
of the sea, the shops with all the bargains and especially
the pubs and clubs. They enjoy living with their host families
and many of them come back to this part of England,"
he added.
Peter Jones, student services manager
at International House said he was delighted
that the school continues to bring students back year after
year.
